Illustration Notes for Episode Fifty-Five

This week’s pretty slap-dash episode image depicts Anselm as we find him—peeping in on Colleen before their ‘daily chat.’ I liked this image idea not just because of its direct reference to the beginning of the scene, but because it was a ‘close-up’ on Anselm—which is what the whole episode itself actually is as well. The last two episodes about Colleen and her ‘host’ have been very much about Colleen—how she understood and felt about this event in her life, and how she was thinking through ways to navigate it. This scene is really almost entirely about Anselm—not Colleen, although she’s definitely there, and even doing some things that may make us wonder where she’s ‘coming from’ or going to with that. But we won’t get those answers about her until later. Today, all the ‘answers’ were about Anselm—who may not be going where we think he will either… Just sayin’. :]

And yes, for those of you who’ve met me, my visual character model for Anselm is—me. The author gets to choose which character to appear as in the illustrations, and I figured, hey—why stick someone else with Anselm? ;]
